About Sonya Monique Arts
Cheryl D. Harris is the Founder and visionary of Sonya Monique Arts. She realized her love for art and developed her artistic skills at an early age. Cheryl grew up in Flint, Michigan where she graduated from Northwestern High School. She credits her techniques from her high school art teacher, Mr. Hendrick, who helped guide her passion. Also, she attended the Flint Institute of Art Culture Center where there were various workshops and classes taught by industry professionals. Having attended McCree Theatre, she was able to be mentored by the famous artist, Laverne Ross. After 30 years of working for General Motors, she retired 19 years ago, which allowed more time for her artistic development. General Motors generously paid for her to go back to school and take up Art and Graphic Design at the University of Michigan-Flint. Outside of her love for art, she has two daughters and two grandsons whom she loves dearly. As a tribute to her first born daughter that passed away at a year-and-a-half, she named her business after her to continue her legacy. She's also a two-time cancer survivor and just hopes you all enjoy her paintings.
